A Greater Applegate, formerly Greater Applegate Community Development Corporation, has a long history of serving the Applegate Valley. Many remember our early leadership to operate Cantrall Buckley County Park when it was in danger of closing in 1998. The organization operated this local gem for 20 years before safely returning it to county operation in 2018.
Early economic vitality projects included GOLD’N Applegate Discovery Tour Route, Southern Oregon University Tourism Study, Applegate Lake Campground Proposal, Regional Investment Fund Grant, Applegate Business Consortium, EAS (Toll Free) Calling Area, Applegate Directory, Small Diameter Conference, Buy Local Campaign, Business Technology Survey, and the 2017 Community Roadmap which led to our current vision and placemaking work.
Early environmental sustainability and community livability projects included Applegate Valley Green and Solar Tours (2008 and 2009), Applegate Wayside Park, Applegate School Historical CD, Fire Plan Survey, Team Bravo – Community Beautification, Support for Keeping Ruch School Open, and Support for Friends of Forest Creek.
This organization also launched the following organizations: Pacifica – A Garden in the Siskiyous, NW Seasonal Workers, Siskiyou Sustainable Co-Op, and Applegate School Foundation.
The current stewards are humbled by the long history of this organization in service to the Applegate Valley!
