A Greater Applegate is working with different segments of the community to develop a long-term community vision and provide platforms for the community’s needs and ideas to be seen and brought into focus.  In 2016-17 A Greater Applegate, then known as the GACDC, collaborated with Rural Development Initiatives for the Applegate Valley Economic Vitality Roadmap. The Roadmap clarified the need for more in-depth listening, learning, and community visioning to be facilitated by a backbone organization. AGA has successfully grown our internal capacity to take on this role with networks of nonprofits, businesses, and neighborhood, culminating in a “20/20 vision.”

Nonprofit Network

A Greater Applegate supports local nonprofits serving the Applegate Valley by offering opportunities for professional development, social gatherings, resource sharing and genuine connecting through our Nonprofit Network.

We host seasonal gatherings that feature a variety of topics such as:

  • Volunteer management
  • Community building
  • Fundraising and finances
  • Professional networking
  • Momentum Grants
  • Local resources
  • And other pertinent topics.

Our vision is that nonprofits serving the Applegate Valley feel supported, and excited to collaborate on projects in ways that support the environmental, social, and economic vitality of the Applegate Valley.

Small Grants are available through A Greater Applegate’s, Momentum Grants (due Oct 1 annually) More information HERE

Business Network

The Applegate Valley Business Network launched in November of 2019 with a successful event at the Applegate Lodge.  Participating business owners expressed interest in creating an Applegate Valley marketing campaign, supporting Applegate Valley tourism, producing a local makers market, and creating signage at the east and west ends of 238 to welcome people to the Applegate Valley.

Since the November launch, a steering committee has formed and identified the following priority projects:

  • Designing an Applegate Valley branding logo
  • Creating an Applegate Valley business map
  • Getting welcome signs up on both sides of the valley

If you are an Applegate Valley business owner and are interested in joining the Steering Committee to take a leadership role in completing these projects and more, contact [email protected].

Neighborhood Connections

A Greater Applegate is working with neighborhood leaders throughout the Applegate Valley to host place-based listening sessions. Our goal is to learn about local assets, challenges, opportunities, and needs, while also connecting neighbors to neighbors. We aim to hear from at least 250 residents over the coming year through these Neighborhood Listening Sessions. This work will help inform our 20/20 Community Vision plan while strengthening neighborhoods across the Applegate Valley. Please join us to collaborate in an inclusive environment, identify priorities and inspire local action to move ideas forward! For more information, email [email protected].

Applegate Valley Connect

Applegate Valley Connect (AVC) is a free communication and resource sharing website created specifically for residents of the Applegate Valley. The intent of this website is to become the primary source for information about current events, where to find local goods and services, and how to connect with projects and volunteer opportunities throughout the Applegate Valley. Like on online community bulletin board!

Our goal is to strengthen the network among Applegate Valley neighbors, visitors, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government officials to establish a more informed and connected regional community. AVC does this by providing users the opportunity to learn more about their neighbors and neighboring communities, foster greater community involvement, encourage local economic activity, and promote greater self-reliance.

Applegate Valley Connect is aligned with a statewide effort—conceived by Community Systems LLC and funded by The Ford Family Foundation—to promote community and communication in rural areas.

Interested in joining the AVC team? Operational support is on a volunteer basis and considered low-commitment. Interested in learning a new online platform? Are you a community organizer? Do you enjoy editing? Are you a photographer who is inspired by the natural beauty of the Valley? You could have a role with AVC! Email [email protected] for more information.
